Clomid - Clomiphene Citrate. Clomid does not belong to the anabolic/androgenic steroid group of products. It is a synthetic estrogen belonging to the group of sex hormones.

Clomid is normally used to trigger ovulation in females. Clomid, by stimulating the release of hormones, effects the release of gonadotropin and triggers ovulation in women with anovulatory cycles, who are sterile because of this irregularity. Though predominantly a drug destined for women, its effect on men has been well documented.

The manufacturer of Dyneric, the Merrell Dow Pharma GmbH, states in the package insert for the German version of Clomid: 'Dyneric causes an improved activity between mid-brain, pituitary gland, and ovaries.' But it is also true that Dyneric also improves the activity between mid-brain (hypothalamus), pituitary gland thypophysis), and testes in men.

Clomid has a telling influence on the hypothalamo-hypophysial testicular axis. It stimulates the hypophysis to release more gonadotropin so that a faster and higher release of FSH (follicle stimulating hormone) and LH (luteinizing hormone) occurs. This results in an elevated endogenous levels (body's own testosterone level).

Clomid has been observed to be especially effective when the body's own testosterone production, due to the intake of anabolic/androgenic steroids, is suppressed. Clomid normalizes the testosterone level and the spermatogenesis (sperm development) within 10-14 days, in most of the cases. It is for this reason that Clomid is primarily taken after steroids are discontinued. Bringing the testosterone production to a normal level at such times as quickly as possible becomes important so that the loss of strength and muscle mass is brought to the very minimum. Clomid - Combined Strengths

A combination of Clomid with HCG or using Clomid after the intake of HCG ensures better results. Clomid, acting on the hypothalamus and the hypophysis, regenerates the entire regulating cycle while HCG imitates the effect of the luteinizing hormone (LH) which in turn stimulates the Ledigs Cells to produce more testosterone. Since HCG, unlike Clomid, leads to a distinctly elevated plasmatestosterone level within a few hours, many athletes first take HCG and follow it up with Clomid

Although Clomid is a synthetic estrogen, paradoxically, it also works as an antiestrogen as it has a very low estrogenic effect and thus blocks the stronger estrogens formed during the aromatization of steroids at the very receptors. However, this does not prevent the steroids from aromatizing but the increased estrogen is mostly deactivated as it cannot attach to the receptors. Increased water retention and possible signs of feminization are thus reduced or even completely avoided.

The antiestrogenic effect of Clomid being lower than that of Proviron, Nolvadex, and Teslac, it is mainly taken as a testosterone stimulant.

Clomid - Side Effects

The side effects of Clomid are rare at reasonable dosages. The possible side effects are climacteric hot flashes and occasional visual disturbances that can result in blurred vision, flickering lights or flashing. If visual disturbances are noticed it is advised to discontinue Clomid. Liver dysfunction cannot be excluded; and are however, very unlikely in women. Enlargement of the ovaries and abdominal pain can occur since Clomid stimulates the ovaries. Multiple pregnancies are a possibility with Clomid.

Clomid - Dosage

50-100 mg/per day(1-2 tablets) usually taken with fluids after meals. If more tablets are taken it is recommended that they be administered in equal doses distributed throughout the day. The duration of intake should not exceed 10 to 14 days.

Most athletes begin with 100 mg/day taking one 50mg tablet every morning and evening after meals. After the fifth day the dosage is often reduced to only one 50mg tablet per day. It is normally not necessary to take the compound for more than 10 days in order to increase the endogenus testosterone production.

To be effective as an antiestrogen Clomid needs to be taken for several weeks.

Clomid is relatively expensive but bearable on account of the very limited dosage time. A package with 10 tablets costs approximately $35 - 45 on the black market. The foreign compounds such as the Spanish Omifin are considerably cheaper and cost less than $2 per tablet.
